I have the dvd install disk I created from the rc download. I can see where folk would think it's an update but after thousands of machines I have yet to see this issue. Is that screwed up, or what?I have also noticed the blackscreen problem after allowing Windows updates and allowing reboot. Sorry for being so dense.

Hope this is helpful to you. A repair install however, repairs any corrupt/missing files the OS has, and this will only work on the same os. Windows failed to start. Then I'm forced to manually power it off and start the restart in Safe Mode, restart in normal mode, etc.
